The New Winter Songbook

Coming in 2024

Rebecca is excited to be curating The New Winter Songbook, a newly-commissioned anthology of Winter Songs by living composers. These new songs, for solo voice, piano and other instruments will celebrate a diverse range of composers and poets and their experiences of winter (which includes but is not limited to Christmas) in a modern presentation of the season in the 2020s. Rebecca is delighted to be working with pianist Caroline Jaya Ratnam on the project. The recording will be taking place in Summer 2024, ready for release on the Resonus label in November. Several of the songs in the Songbook will be appropriate for unison upper voices so Rebecca is looking forward to working with young people in London and Manchester to workshop and perform these pieces.

The New Winter Songbook will be a newly-commissioned, recorded and collated anthology of Winter Songs by living composers. The songs, for solo voice and piano, (standing in contrast to the numerous carol anthologies for choir!) as well as other instruments, will celebrate a diverse range of composers and poets and their experiences of the Winter Season (which includes but is not limited to, Christmas) in a modern presentation of winter for the 2020s. The anthology will include 14 new commissions as well as recently composed works. Several songs will be appropriate for unison upper voices so the project will also find a home within broader educational and choral settings.
